3200.00! Why is wedding photography so expensive!?!

Full time professional wedding photographers like myself charge what we do because we have to. We have expensive equipment and expensive software that we use. We have pricy maintenance fees for our professionally designed sites, marketing, insurance, an accountant, sample albums,prints,canvas’s,our second shooters & taxes. Before the digital era people would buy prints which would help photographers make a profit. I include the high resolution files in all of my packages. My typical wedding coverage is 8-10 hours of shooting. Then after that, processing the images and uploading them to a gallery for viewing ranges from 20-40 hours. Then it’s time to blog,design a custom album and all the other odds and ends(burning disks,meeting with clients at least twice,driving to locations etc) We are just trying to make a living. It is Art….but it’s also a business. : )

Will you be our main photographer?Yes I will. Some company’s actually meet with their brides and grooms and then hire others to shoot the weddings they book. I can’t work that way, I will always be the one you meet with and the one who shoots your wedding. I often bring an assistant with me, but I will always be the main shooter. Some packages include second shooters. My seconds are dear friends of mine who I can count on and that have photography company’s of their own. I find that by working with my peers that I can trust them to give their all on your wedding day.

What your sick the day of our wedding and can’t shoot it?In the slight chance that I can’t shoot your event,I have many other wedding photographer contacts. I can call them at any given time. I find it very important to network with other stl wedding photographers.

I read somewhere that I need to feel a personal connection to our photographer. What does that mean to you?If you can sit a meeting with your prospect wedding photographer and by the time you leave(which was an hour later than you planned for)and you can’t wait to get married, than it was a good meeting!You may have just found your photographer! It’s so very important to mesh well with your photographer. I cannot say that enough. You are going to be with them every second of one of the biggest days of your life. If you dread email responses or phone calls…. than find a new photographer. If you think we are a good match, awesome that’s what I like to hear! I love what I do and I’m passionate about it.

How many weddings a week do you take on? I only will book one wedding or event a weekend. I feel that it’s allows me to focus 100 percent on your event. This also means that my work flow is quicker and it insures you to get your proofs in the timely manner.

You specialize in wedding photojournalism…I have heard about it, but what does that really mean? I’m so glad you asked!

A wedding photojournalist is a person who takes photos during a wedding using an alternative approach where the images are captured spontaneously to emphasize moments and emotion. Much like photojournalists for the media, wedding photojournalists present the story of the day through their photographs. Everyone should ask their photographer what style they shoot in. I try not to be defined by one style. I am an artist who happens to provide a service who takes a candid, documentary approach.

So does that mean you don’t take the formal posed shots?No way! I know it’s important to have those shots and I wouldn’t sacrifice all tradition. I try to keep the posed shots under 30 minutes and I ask for a list of your important shots. What all this means is you get more time to enjoy your wedding day!After all this day is all about you and don’t you just want to get down and boogie? I don’t want you to have to force your smiles.I don’t try to stage the moments, I just capture them as they happen.

So you take a few formals of the wedding party, but what about us? What about the romantic shots?I try to take 20-30 minutes at the reception site during dinner or another unobtrusive time to take a few informal formals of you and your new husband/wife alone. I’ll find a quaint little spot at your site to take these very important shots. I find that by not having an audience that everyone feels comfortable and I can capture the true essence of your love. If that’s just your husband kissing your hand,brushing your cheek or making you giggle. I am there to document those moments.

Did I mention our wedding is in Tahiti? Do you travel?Yes I do and I LOVE destination weddings! When I say love.. I mean it with every essence of the word. I will need a gallon of sunscreen, but I am passport ready!

Ok Lea I’m picking up what your putting down, but what about dvd’s. I have to have the high resolution images.Not a problem at all! I want my bride’s and grooms to have digital copies of their images. I would never say no to this. All packages come with dvd’s of their wedding images.

So I can have the dvd, but how do we print them?I include a print release with your dvd’s. This allows you to make copies of the images. However if you print through me the quality of your prints will be better. I say this, because I go through labs who only sell to professional photographers. You will have options that aren’t available to everyone. You will have so many paper options such as metallic,linen,pearl not to mention canvas,acrylics,metal,ect. I offer so many options that I m sure will wow your friends and family. I offer new products often.

So what if aunt Mary in Alaska wants to print a 20×30 and hang it above her fireplace?Again not a problem. Aunt Mary can also go through the proofing system and order her print. I also sell copies of the dvd’s for a slight fee.

Great, but what about an album? I would love a beautiful flushmount album or maybe a coffee table book. I can’t decide. Do you offer both? Why yes I do both the flush mount and hinged coffee table books. I can show you samples at our meeting.
